Maturing Your Services: Advocating for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Later Life

Piggybacking on the release of this excellent document (at least in my mind–don’t know if that’s actually the way this was conceived), allow me to link you one of the newer elearning options available through NSVRC, Maturing Your Services: Advocating for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Later Life. Don’t let the word advocating put you off, healthcare people, this is for you, too. Details after the jump:

This interactive online course is designed to increase advocates’ and other victim service professionals’ capacity for serving victims of sexual violence in later life. Considerations for serving older adult victims are explored in three sections–social, physical, and emotional factors– with opportunities to practice and reflect upon the information.

This is a good example of how you can bring continuing education to your team members without them having to even show up for a training. Have everyone go through the module, then at your next staff meeting, hold a facilitated discussion on how the content pertains to your patient population, and the types of changes people might make to their practice now that they have completed the elearning session. See–capacity building on a flexible (and free) scale.
