Statement of Need/Program Overview:

Elder abuse is relatively new in Native American communities, with only limited data available. Tribal codes that protect elders are currently being developed but information about and an understanding of how to identify and combat elder abuse is lacking.

Educational Objectives:

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Define and discuss elder abuse.
  2. Discuss demographic and cultural information about the elder tribal populations.
  3. Understand nursing roles in identifying and responding to elder abuse and what resources available.
