Well, now, lookie here. Courtesy of IAFN, I have in my sticky little hands one copy of the brand new Forensic Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice:

pi

Newly released, “this one volume guide articulates the essentials of this specialty, its accountabilities and activities – the who, what, when, where, and how of its practice, for both specialists and generalists and those who work with them. The standards themselves – six for nursing practice and nine for nursing professional performance – are those by which all nurses in this specialty practice. Each standard is made more specific and usable by its set of measurement criteria, filling out the delineation of the perspectives and priorities of forensic nursing.

The book’s summary discussion of the scope of such practice – its characteristics, development and trends, education and training, its practice environments and settings, its general and specialized practice roles, its ethical and conceptual bases, lends a broad context for understanding and using these standards” (ANA).

Retail price is $18.95, but one of you lucky folks can have it free. Leave me a comment with no more than 2 sentences about why you do this work, and I will randomly choose one as the winner. You have until Monday noon ET and I will announce the winner Tuesday morning.

I do this work because victims of sexual assault should be given the opportunity to see professionals who believe them and treat them with dignity and respect.

Being the only SANE in our community, on call 24/7, I am always passionate about the care for my victims. I want to give them the one on one care they so deserve.

I do this work because I have finally found a niche to combine my desire to impact lives with my caring and compassion without having to make an apology for paying attention to details.

The job security is great. Investment banking and the automobile industry may be struggling, but the violence continues…

Forensic nursing is the gift of true nursing practice in it’s purest form, and I will do it … anyway, anywhere, anytime, with anyone, for any reason needed, as long as I am able.

I do this work because I know that I will give the best care and attention to detail that everyone deserves when they come to my hospital. I am a S.A.N.E and I believe in the work I perform.

Responding to patients who have been violated and making a real connection is the most profoundly satisfying experience I’ve ever had in 30 years of nursing. Forensic nursing is the perfect mix of variety and attention to fine detail.

I do this type of “work” because it is a natural extension of my emergency dept. nursing job. We spent so many years dreaming of a way to better care for our victims of violence – I am so happy to see how forensic nursing has evolved. I am proud to be a part of our team!

I love helping the kids, giving them someone to trust, to feel safe with. I love when a “case” comes full circle, the bad guys pay and the kids are in counseling and recovering from thier trauma.
