World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). Several activities (of which I am aware) are going on to commemorate the day. Click through for more information.

All of these events will be held on June 15th, 2012:

The National Resource Center for Domestic Violence and the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life are going to be hosting a 30 minute online radio program on Blog Talk Radio, Lessons Learned from Older Survivors. You can listen to the program here at 3pm ET.

The National Latin@ Network & Casa de Esperanza are also hosting a 30 minute session on Blog Talk Radio, this one at 2pm ET. Register for Working Together to End Abuse in Later Life in Latin@ Communities here.

NSVRC is hosting a tweetup all week, Elders Matter: the Two Cents Tweetup (sorry, I’m late to posting this, but there’s plenty of time to still participate). From NSVRC:

“On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (6/15/2012) share your stories on why #eldersmatter. Twitter is a great way to spread the word about abuse in later life. Join the NSVRC for the week of June 11th in tweeting about World Elder Abuse Awareness Day by offering your story with the hashtags: #my2cents and #eldersmatter. Sexual violence can happen to anyone but adults in later life are particularly vulnerable. Honor all elders by tweeting their praises. Why do #EldersMatter to you?”

Please let us know in the Comments if there are other events going on…
