Disability and Transgender Survivors

No articles to recount this week–I spent Mother’s Day thoroughly engaged with my family to the exclusion of all things media-related. So a quick post about an upcoming webinar on a topic not widely covered: FORGE is offering a session, Disability and Transgender Survivors: Empowering Providers Who Work with Multiply Marginalized Populations. It will be held May 23rd from 2-3:30 pm CT.

From the announcement:

Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals experience extremely high rates violence, as well as live with higher-than-average rates of physical and mental health conditions.  This interactive webinar will dynamically engage participants with core information and statistics about who transgender people are, the types and magnitude of violence they encounter, and the key intersections between disability and traumatic experience.  Attendees will gain new insights about the barriers that transgender survivors living with disabilities face.  Providers will learn constructive, practical, and memorable strategies that will enable them to more effectively work with this multiply-marginalized population, with an overt focus on techniques and concepts that empower both providers and transgender survivors.
