Pediatric Medical Traumatic Stress

I had a comment by a reader recently regarding trauma-informed care and kids, in which she mentioned that trauma and trauma-informed care isn’t just limited to abuse and violence. Agreed, and in light of that comment, I figured I’d present a CE offering (for nurses) that looks at the issues in broader terms–this one from Healthcare Toolbox (read more about them here). They have a free audio program, Pediatric Medical Traumatic Stress that just requires registration to access.

From the site:

This 40 minute audio CE training program provides nurses with an introduction to the types of traumatic stress reactions typically seen in the early aftermath of medical injury and illness. The program demonstrates how to identify the signs and symptoms of emotional trauma in children and how to address these reactions in the context of everyday care. Using two case examples, the program shows how to apply the D-E-F protocol for trauma-informed care in real nursing situations and addresses common concerns that nurses have about assessing and addressing child and parent distress.
