Sexual Assault Forensic Protocol Guide for Corrections

First, let me just say this: tonight (Wednesday) begins Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Shanah Tovah to all who are observing the holiday. I will be spending a quiet holiday at home with my spouse (and my shiny new ID card!). Second,  for those of you who interface with or work in corrections, the National PREA Resource Center is hosting a webinar next week on September 10th from 2-3:30 pm ET: Sexual Assault Forensic Protocol Guide for Corrections–Working Together to Provide a Victim-Centered Approach.

From the registration:

Presenters:
Marnie Shiels, Attorney Advisor, Office on Violence Against Women
Tara Graham, Senior Program Specialist, National PREA Resource Center
Allison Hastings, Senior Policy Analyst, Vera Institute of Justice
Jennifer Feicht, PREA Coordinator, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections
Linda McFarlane, Deputy Executive Director, Just Detention International

Content:
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) in collaboration with the National PREA Resource Center and the Vera Institute of Justice will introduce to corrections and the victim services fields the recently released Recommendations for Administrators of Prisons, Jails, and Community Confinement Facilities for Adapting the U.S. Department of Justice’s A National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations, Adults/Adolescents. It provides recommendations to corrections officials and victim service organizations on how to adapt a victim-centered, coordinated approach to working with victims of sexual abuse in confinement. The webinar will feature speakers who participated in the development of the guide and will discuss how the guide can help agencies comply with the PREA standards. A question and answer period featuring Kim Day, SAFE Technical Assistance Coordinator, International Association of Forensic Nurses, will follow the formal presentation.
