Articles of Note: March 2026 Edition

Welcome back to Articles of Note, our monthly romp through the peer reviewed literature. These are some extremely challenging times in forensic nursing, so I am glad to provide a bit of consistency in our little corner as we try and sort out some of the bigger questions of the day. There is a lot that is quite uncertain, but what I do know is that the work continues–and this month there are some excellent contributions to our knowledge base. Among the things that have me most excited: a new articles by Miles, Valentine, Hildt Moxley and colleagues about pain reports and sexual assault medical forensic exams; Normandin’s unconscious bias and child abuse identification; and a host of articles on IPV and brain injury. There’s just a ton of good stuff on the list this month. And a lot of it is open access (as marked).

I have been getting regular emails and questions on the road about what happens now that IAFN is going under and where will I find my professional home? I have great faith in this profession of forensic nursing–I think 2026 will be a year of people finding their footing and figuring out what feels right. I am personally weighing my options about where my professional home will be. I know that I will continue to align myself with folks who seek to lift up the profession and move it forward. Fidelity to science and ethics is a priority as well, so that will guide my decision. Hopefully yours, too.

Happy reading, see you next month.
