Articles of Note June 2026 (and some exciting announcements!)

It’s time once again for Articles of Note, our monthly romp through the peer-reviewed literature. However, this month, I also have news about two projects I have been working on, so if you are interested, read through to the end. Otherwise, you can stop after the link to this month’s reading list. It’s a good one, especially for my peds people. And there’s a little extra in it for my death investigators, as well.

Exciting news #1: I’m glad to announce my next project, partnering with Sheridan Miyamoto to launch the Forensic Nursing Leadership Institute housed within the SAFE-T Center at the Ross and Carol Neses College of Nursing at Penn State. Participants in the Forensic Nursing Leadership Institute will meet in person at Penn State on October 21-25, 2026.

Our aim is to cultivate the next generation of forensic nurse leaders in order to build sustainable healthcare delivery systems, strengthen communities of practice, and advance access to high-quality specialty violence care.

The Forensic Nursing Leadership Institute is highly participatory and designed for forensic nurses who are emerging into leadership, newly serving in leadership roles, or informally carrying leadership responsibilities within their programs or communities. We look forward to supporting leadership development, technology-enabled practice expansion, peer community, and sustained practice change.

Sign up here to receive information about the application that will be available on July 1st

Exciting news #2: You may have seen over on the socials, but we have launched a podcast! The Control Group: A Forensic Nursing Journal Club Podcast brings sharp minds, clinical curiosity, and just the right amount of skepticism to the world of forensic nursing research. Read all about the podcast and find our episodes here: https://www.forensichealth.com/podcast/ {you can also listen to it wherever you find your favorite podcasts}. New episodes will drop every couple weeks. Our introductory episode is available now.

That’s it from me. Happy reading (and listening). See you next month.
