The "Choking" Game

Also from the CDC website this morning:

It’s called the “choking game,” but it’s no game, and there are no winners. Some kids are choking themselves or each other, by hand or with some form of noose. The intent is to get a high, caused by a temporary lack of oxygen to the brain. Tragically, this so-called ‘game’ sometimes goes too far and results in death. In this broadcast, Dr. Robin Toblin discusses this latest activity and steps that can be taken to bring an end to this deadly game.

Leadership Reader

Today, for the 2nd installment of the Leadership Reader, I wanted to highlight a book about money. Many of you have talked with me about the challenges of funding your programs and the need to explore new ways to bring in operating dollars. Grants are always a good avenue to pursue, but they often come with serious restrictions on how the money can be used. Fundraising, on the otherhand, allows you much more freedom and flexibility in alotting those dollars to areas grants often don’t cover, like general operating funds or travel for education and conferences.

Update

In the 2 weeks this site has been up and running, almost a thousand hits have been recorded and many of you now subscribe. Looking at the site stats, it’s clear that vicarious trauma, bioterrorism and sexual assault are the most popular topics so far. If there is information you are looking for, please feel free to post a comment asking for it. I have a wide variety of sources I cull from and receive many email updates that feed this site. I’m happy to search for special requests. However, your fellow readers may also know where to find some of that information, so it’s always worth a post. Additionally, if you have information you think would be appropriate, please send it on to me (jenifer.markowitz@gmail.com) and I will get it up on the site.

In the coming weeks, I will be adding information to the site in a new series that focuses on  creating your own online offerings. Stay tuned!

Help make Forensic Healthcare Online even more user-friendly

My goal with this site is to provide useful, accessible and relevant content to the readers of Forensic Healthcare Online (and with almost 500 hits in our 5 days of existence and many email subscribers already receiving updates I know you’re out there). So consider this a plea to give something back to your community of forensic professionals while strengthening the quality of this site: please use the comments section of  entries to provide feedback about the educational offering featured or make suggestions about creative ways to use them. I had hoped to add a rating system to make reviewing much simpler, but sadly that won’t be possible at this juncture. For now, we will have to rely on old-fashioned words instead. Thanks for supporting the goals of this site.
